Tobacco Use Reduction Program (TURP)

Plumas County Public Health Agency’s Tobacco Use Reduction Program has a vision of a community where all individuals are healthy and free from problems related to tobacco. Our mission is to plan, coordinate and provide a continuum of tobacco prevention services that are responsive to the needs of Plumas County’s communities. We model our work on an “upstream” approach and use evidence-based research to guide our programs.

What are we working on?
Currently, TURP is working on educating the public about the tobacco industry’s use of flavors to target vulnerable populations (e.g. children and adolescents). Our TURP team is also providing technical assistance to several agencies in Plumas County to develop tobacco-free policies on healthcare campuses, at Feather River College and for places that offer outdoor recreational areas, like Central Plumas Parks and Rec District. Additionally, our TURP team strongly believes in the capability of our county’s youth and is strengthening our youth as an asset to become future health equity leaders.
