December 2011

Due to this month being the driest December on record, all crews are busy performing maintenance projects in preparation for winter.  Some of these projects include covering deicer sand piles, asphalt patching, shoulder/ditch cleaning, hazard tree/stump removal and cutting roadside brush.

The Quincy crew has the task of driver training for Public Works employees upgrading their licenses to commercial, currently they are working on one preparing him for a January 4th drive test.

The Equipment Maintenance crew is working on snow removal equipment including plow trucks and snow blowers.

On the 7th most employees enjoyed a safety meeting followed by a lunch provided from the Risk Management staff as a thank you for a job well done.

On the 21st Public Works took delivery of our new snow blower, it’s a Larue T 70 truck mounted blower that is rated at 5000 tons per hour.  This unit will be assigned to Laporte and will replace two 1950’s era units.

Public Works was successful in filling two vacancies on the Quincy Road crew, now they will have to fit in the required training for the new hires in preparation for plowing snow.
