Workers Comp Executive - Journal of record for the workers comp community in California

Risk Management is a department within the County Administrative Office. The department includes the Risk Management and Occupational Safety and Health programs for the County of Plumas and offers support for all departments within the Plumas County jurisdiction. Plumas County’s Risk Management program provides assistance to all departments in the identification and examination of risks, selection of risk control and risk financing techniques, evaluation of the result and improvement of the management of risk by county entities.  

The Occupational Health and Safety program focuses on regulatory compliance with occupational laws at the local, state and federal level. This may include information and recommendations regarding training, procedures, equipment, testing and analysis or specific services provided by selected staff of Plumas County and the Risk Manager. The Risk Manager will also interface with regulatory agency personnel and serve as the point of contact for Plumas County.

The Risk Management program focuses on review of operations and ownership of property of risks including injury to persons, damage or loss of property, impact to Plumas County programs, liability, loss of financial resources and reputation. A variety of techniques may be recommended as appropriate, increasing safety of the activity, transferring responsibility for safety and increasing positive consequences for active participation in safety.

Plumas County coverage programs for general, professional, vehicle and travel liability as well as real property, equipment and special events are coordinated by Risk Management. This department will review insurance requirements for agreements, contracts and facilities use that are recommended for Plumas County. Submittals will be reviewed for major capital projects and other agreements as requested.

Incidents and accidents (vehicle and property or liability) are to be reported to the Risk Manager, by the designated responsible employee, supervisor or department head, as soon as possible (within 24 hours!) to ensure timely investigation, claims management, and correction of hazardous conditions to prevent additional injury, damage or loss.

ALL employee job related injuries or illness is to be reported immediately within 24 hours; OSHA standards require the County to report serious injury (loss of limbs or fatality) within 8 hours time. Notify Supervisors, Department Heads, and the Risk Manager by phone. Leave a message on voice mail if unable to reach via office line or cell number. Accident reports are to be sent immediately, by fax if necessary to the Risk Manager. All of the accident report is to be filled out completely and appropriate Workers’ Compensation paper work submitted. We are penalized for late reporting. Your cooperation with these procedures are crucial for cost savings on claims.

Always contact Plumas County Sheriff’s or California Highway Patrol for emergencies requiring police, fire or medical services immediately dial 911.

Persons wishing to file claims with Plumas County should be directed to Risk Management for information of filing government claims and assistance in filing claims with County insurance programs for travel, equipment and special events.

Risk Management is located in the Plumas County Courthouse at 520 Main Street, Room 212 on the second floor. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
